Cotendo CDN Balancer (CDB) gives a content provider the ability to allocate web traffic or audiences to based on monetization strategy or business and IT policies. CDB has a flexible web-based management console where rules can be created and managed to implement content delivery policies created to optimize objectives such as user experience, system performance and/or cost of delivery. These rules include weighted allocation of traffic, user’s location, time of day and domain accessed.

For example, if a providers core infrastructure has good performance, but constrained capacity, CDN Balancer can be tailer to be activated only during the common periods of high traffic, which will save a provider the cost of expansion of core assets, but only use enough CDN as needed. Another example is to use CDN balancer to allocate traffic over geographically diverse locations (based on requester location), and that allocation can also be to providers existing resources, to Cotendo, as well as to other CDN’s when customer has a multi-vendor strategy.

Changes to CDB configuration are reflected immediately in real time on the network, no lag or delay. The CDB system is transparent to the end user, and does not require a plug-in or content download. CDB can shape the global access distribution of any web service that utilizes DNS to for resource location
